The Card Collab – Issue #8
For months, the One Piece Card Game sat on the edge of my radar.
Everywhere I looked, the game seemed to be growing. Local game stores were hosting weekly tournaments, collectors were chasing some of the hobby's most sought-after cards, and social media was filled with discussions about deck strategies, upcoming releases, and incredible card artwork.
At first, I was simply an observer.
I had recently found my way back into trading card games through Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy crossover. The set reignited a passion I hadn't felt in years and reminded me what I enjoyed most about the hobby: opening packs, learning new games, and connecting with people who shared the same interests.
As I became more involved with the local TCG scene, I started paying closer attention to the One Piece Card Game. Around the same time, I finally decided to watch the anime. What began as casual curiosity quickly turned into genuine interest. Between enjoying the series and opening a few booster packs here and there, I found myself becoming increasingly invested in the game.
There was just one problem.
I had never actually played it.
When I heard about the OP-16: The Time of Battle prerelease event, it felt like the perfect opportunity to change that.
Taking the Leap
Like many people approaching a new trading card game, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect.
Learning a new game can feel intimidating. There are unfamiliar mechanics, experienced players, and the natural fear of sitting across from someone who knows far more than you do.
