The Card Collab – Issue #27
Since launching in April, The Card Collab has been sharing weekly stories about the people, businesses, and events that make up Jacksonville's trading card game community. Along the way, we've had the chance to meet local vendors, learn about game stores, and hear from collectors and players who each bring something different to the hobby.
It's been an exciting few months, and we've learned a lot about the local scene through the people we've featured and the events we've attended. There's still so much to discover, and we've been using this past week to step back, plan for the upcoming holidays, and think about what we'd like The Card Collab to become moving forward.
We've taken that time to plan new features, explore ideas, and find more ways to share the stories happening around us. Here's a look at some of what's ahead.
A Local Holiday Gift Guide
With the holiday season approaching, we're working on a gift guide for players and collectors that looks beyond the usual booster packs and sealed products.
We're hoping to highlight local vendors and creators offering items inspired by the games we love, from custom binders and keychains to handmade accessories and other unique finds. Whether you're shopping for a friend, looking for something for your own collection, or trying to find a gift for someone who's difficult to shop for, we want to help you discover a few new options.
Part of what makes this idea exciting is the opportunity to introduce readers to the people behind these products. There are creators putting time and care into things that bring a personal touch to the hobby, and we'd like to help more people find their work.
The guide will also be a chance to give local creators some additional visibility during one of the busiest shopping seasons of the year. We know the hobby looks different for everyone, and we hope this gives readers a few ideas they might not have come across otherwise.
More Stories from the Community
The gift guide is one project we're looking forward to, but we also want to continue building on the features we've been sharing since April.
That means getting to know more local game stores, meeting vendors at card shows, and hearing from collectors and players with experiences worth sharing. Some stories may introduce readers to a business they haven't visited before, while others may take a closer look at people they've seen around the local scene but haven't had the chance to get to know.
We're also interested in the work that goes into running a small business, organizing events, and creating products for the hobby. These things take time, effort, and plenty of dedication, and we want to give readers a better understanding of the people making them happen.
As we plan upcoming issues, we're looking for stories that offer something new to readers and give people a reason to discover another part of the gaming community. We don't want to limit ourselves to one type of feature or one corner of the hobby. There's room to explore different games, perspectives, and experiences, and we're excited to see where those stories take us.
Finding New Ways to Connect
Writing about the community is one way to bring people together, but we've also been exploring opportunities to help people connect in person.
Our Matcha & Mana gatherings with Taiyo Matcha Cafe have been a great example of that. Bringing Magic: The Gathering players together for casual games in a local café has given us a chance to enjoy the hobby in a different setting, meet other players, and introduce people to a gathering they might not otherwise have attended.
Experiences like these have encouraged us to think about what else might be possible. We'd love to continue exploring opportunities to support local events, connect with businesses, and create spaces where people can enjoy the hobby together.
Some of these ideas are still taking shape, so we don't have announcements to make just yet. But as we plan for the months ahead, we're keeping an open mind about where The Card Collab can go and the kinds of experiences we can help bring to the local scene.
What’s Next for The Card Collab?
When we started The Card Collab, the goal was to share the stories of the people and places that make the community interesting. Since April, we've had the opportunity to do that through our weekly newsletter, and we've met plenty of people who have given us even more reasons to keep going.
We're grateful to everyone who has subscribed, read our issues, shared our stories, answered our questions, or helped us along the way. Your support has helped us keep this project moving, and we're excited to continue building on what we've started.
As we head into the holiday season, we're looking forward to introducing readers to more local creators, sharing new features, and exploring opportunities to bring people together. We still have plenty to learn and ideas to work through, but we're excited about what's ahead.
And if there's a local vendor whose products you think more people should know about, a game store you'd like to see featured, or someone in the community with a story worth sharing, we'd love to hear from you. Reader suggestions can help us discover people and businesses we might not have come across otherwise.
Thank you for being part of The Card Collab and following along as we figure out what's next. We're looking forward to sharing more with you over the coming months.
